Sikh Heritage Day

Music is the best and highest form of emotion; music helps us to express our emotion in the best way. Music doesn’t have any barrier or any limitation to race, caste or religion. Music is universal. Music not only helps you to express but also helps to relax, excite and bring some emotions which you have never imagined or experienced. Music brings love, it brings people together. It creates a memory for a lifetime. Music opens up new paths, new doors – doors to new friends, new culture, new enjoyment. All this was witnessed at Sikh Heritage Day celebrations held at Singapore on June 8 and 9th 2019, at Our Tampines Hub.

This year was the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, founder of the Sikh faith. Madam Halimah Yacob, President of Singapore was the chief guest and Mayor Desmond Choo 朱倍庆 was the guest of honour during the inauguration, and she interacted with the artists and was fascinated by the varied music instruments on display.

Musical event by the students of Gurmat Sangeet Academy, Singapore mesmerized the audience by the unique melody and rhythm created through great musical instruments like Rabab, Tabla, Sarangi, Dilruaba, Taus, and Harmonium. Best part was the time when we got turbans tied by the people at the event

About 5,000 people attended the event on both days. True to the generous and giving nature of the community, the Langar served was as heavenly as their nature. “The messages and teachings of Guru Nanak form the bedrock of the Sikh faith and are widely recognised as congruent to the principles of an open, inclusive and diverse society,” said project lead Malminderjit Singh in his opening remarks at the event.

Music 360 is honoured to have been part of the event.
