This venture of ours unfurls how ‘world music day ‘started and evolved.

World Music Day, also known Fete de la musique, originated in France in 1982, the Brain child of the minister of culture, Jack Lang.

The first world music day took place on June 21, 1982 in a grand manner.

The aim was to promote music in all its forms and genres, encouraging both amateur and professional musicians to perform in the streets, parks and public places.

It was an extraordinary event, with musicians welcoming an opportunity to share their talents and enjoy the live performances.

Over the years, World Music Day spread far and wide and became a global phenomenon in more than 120 countries.

It was a musical cocktail of diverse styles, encompassing traditional, classical, folk, jazz, rock, pop and more forms.

It became an amazing platform for cultural exchange for showcasing the amazing talents of various nations.

It also promoted music education and community engagements through free concerts and workshops.

World Music Day was celebrated all over the world with a diverse range of musical performances and events.  People came together to enjoy appreciate the power of music, fostering cultural exchange and unity, through the universal language of music.

Today World Music Day continues to evolve kaleidoscopically, adapting novel technological advancements and embracing digital platforms.   It also serves as a platform for musicians both established and aspiring, with concerts, music festivals, street performances and impromptu jazz sessions; while staying true to its original spirit of celebrating the power of universality of music
